The Nature of Death in Emily Dickinsons Poems Essay -- Poetry Analysi
Emily Dickinson once said, ââ¬Å"Dying is a wild night and a new road.â⬠Some people welcome death with open arms while others cower in fear when confronted in the arms of death. Through the use of ambiguity, metaphors, personification and paradoxes Emily Dickinson still gives readers a sense of vagueness on how she feels about dying. Emily Dickinson inventively expresses the nature of death in the poems, ââ¬Å"I felt a Funeral, in my Brain (280)â⬠, ââ¬Å"I Heard a fly Buzzââ¬âWhen I Diedââ¬â(465)ââ¬Å" and ââ¬Å"Because I could not stop for Deathââ¬â(712)â⬠. Emily Dickinson, who achieved more fame after her death, is said to be one of the greatest American poets of all time. Dickinson communicated through letters and notes and according to Amy Paulson Herstek, author of ââ¬Å"Emily Dickinson: Solitary and Celebrated Poet,â⬠ââ¬Å"Writing was the way she kept in touch with the worldâ⬠(15). Dickinsonââ¬â¢s style is unique and although unconventional, it led to extraordinary works of literature. Dickinson lived her life in solitude, but in her solitude she was free to read, write and think which led to her nonconformity and strong sense of individualism. Suzanne Juhasz, a biographer of Dickinson, sums up most criticsââ¬â¢ idea of Dickinson ideally: ââ¬Å"Emily Dickinson is at once the most intimate of poets, and the most guarded. The most self-sufficient, and the neediest. The proudest, and the most vulnerable. These contradictions, which we as her readers encounter repeatedly in her poems, are understandable, not parado xical, for they result from the tension between the life to which she was born and the one to which she aspiredâ⬠(1). Dickinson poured her heart and soul into over 1,700 poems, 600 of which relate to death. Paul J. Ferlazzo, a contributing author of ââ¬Å"Emily Dickinsonâ⬠write... ...d A. Walton Litz. Processed foods Essay
The introduction to processed foods took the world by storm, with quicker food preparation, less time spent cleaning, drive-thru access and the introduction to new recipes. Long before processed foods such as the Twinkie, Honey bun, Spam, frozen dinners, milk, etc; people consumed more wholesome foods naturally loaded with nutrients the human body needed to sustain itself. Processed foods did not exist until the early 19th Century and have since become highly advertised and subsidized by the government. Whole foods on the other hand receive little advertisement and no government subsidies, leading people away from choosing a healthier lifestyle. I believe that processed foods may perhaps taste, look and smell better than their natural whole food counterpart does, yet can you really afford to risk your health for the sake of being happy you had the ability to choose your meal? Many people consume a majority of processed foods throughout the day or week due to their lifestyle; consuming these products in large quantity is an unhealthy habit. These foods are loaded with artificial ingredients such as monosodium glutamate (MSG), flavors, preservatives, hydrogenated oil, fillers, and artificial sweeteners which have been proven in studies to be harmful to the body. Perhaps they do not have time to sit down, the area lacks diners or they do not enjoy eating leftover meals. The products will lead to weight gain, unhealthy joints, muscles, bones, brain and be more prone to illness. Many think that you can exercise and still eat whatever they want. This is untrue as your body needs four essential basic nutrients; water, carbohydrates, fat, and protein. These four are the foundation of a healthy diet. Like the saying ââ¬Å"You are what you eatâ⬠, a reasonable person must assume that eating an unbalanced diet full of processed foods is not a wise choice in leading a long and happy life. If you love Twinkies and Spam then you will only be happy for a short time, before your body breaks down and you die. Happiness comes in many ways, from enjoying a favorite meal to burning off stress by partaking in a good run. Personally I like both but favor exercise as it helps prolong my life, reduces stress and keeps my immune system working at maximum protection against viruses such as the common cold and flu. Cardio-vascular exercise helps maintain the heart and lungs. The body needs proteins to build and repair muscles. A good source of protein can be found in lean meats, fish, eggs and beans. Your body is yours, and as such you should do everything in your power to live a healthy lifestyle. A healthier body ultimately leads to happiness. You will look, feel, and perform better in life. People who do not exercise regularly also put themselves at risk being prone to injury. It is safe to assume that eating healthy and exercising regularly leads to a happier you. In summary, people cannot afford to risk health for the sake of happiness. Living a unhealthy lifestyle full of stress, obesity, and illness; mostly due to a sedentary life and processed foods, leads to social, emotional and physical harm. For good health and happiness you should make it a habit to choose unrefined whole foods such as fruits, vegetables, beans, and whole-grains, and include a good exercise regimen a minimum of 5 hours weekly to live strong. You, your family and friends all deserve to live a long, happy and healthy life.

An Astrologer’s Day Essay
ââ¬Å"An Astrologer's Dayâ⬠has a deceptively simple plot, although the full significance of the story becomes evident only after a second or even third reading. Part of the difficulty arises from the fact that the author deliberately avoids markers that would benefit the reader: there is no clear indication where the story occurs or when it does, although it is possible to make an educated guess about both. The story begins almost in medias res (in the middle) and concludes on what appears to be an ambiguous note. But, in fact, the story is a tightly knit one in which all parts fit together. Description The story begins with a description of the astrologer, who is the central character in the story. In minute detail, his appearance, his clothes, and all the materials he uses to ply his trade are described. The astrologer, who is not given a name, comes across as a type, one of the many street vendors in India, who sit under the shade of a tree or a temporary shed and sell anything from vegetables to newspapers. This astrologer belongs to the same category although, given the nature of his trade, there is a need to dress and behave in a particular manner. He does that effectively by giving the impression of a holy man whose special powers enable him to function as an astrologer. Almost casually, the surroundings of the astrologer begin to take shape. While there are no clear references to a particular city, it is likely, since Narayan consistently uses the fictional city of Malgudi, that this story too takes place in Malgudi. In any event, one gets the impression of a somewhat backward city which still retains a measure of its rural character. The reference to ââ¬Å"municipal lightingâ⬠is one of the strategies employed by the author to suggest a sense of the place. Inâ⬠¦ à » Complete An Astrologer's Day Summary
Homeostasis and how the body responds to exercise Essay
This report will interpret the results of the practical activities that was done in order to monitor the changes in heart rate, temperature and blood pressure before and after exercise. Blood pressure is the measure of how much pressure is put on the walls of the blood vessels when the blood is pumped through them. This is measured in two parts, the larger number on top is known as the systolic pressure, this measures the pressure as the blood is pumped away from the heart whereas the lower number (The diastolic pressure) measures the pressure as the blood returns to the heart. The normal range for a healthy blood pressure is around 120/80 at rest. When I was at rest I recorded my blood pressure which was 118/57. This blood pressure can be considered normal for my age range and fitness level. However it is possible that the reading may not have been completely accurate due to having eaten recently before, the machine may not have worked properly or because of emotional state at the t ime. The pulse is the measure of how many times the heart beats in one minute. This can be measured in either the artery in the neck (Called the carotid artery) or in the wrist. Though the beat is stronger in the neck it is sometimes more difficult to locate and so most people tend to measure it from the wrist. For a healthy person of my age a pulse rate between 60 and 100 is considered to be normal. When I was at rest my heart rate was 82 bpm (Beats per minute). This could be inaccurate due to being nervous though I took my pulse reading both manually and on a machine and it came back the same both times, which may increase the reliability of the results. I recorded my temperature by placing a thermometer in my mouth, this is because under the tongue is one of the more accurate places to get a reading on the body temperature. The normal body temperature of a person is around 37 à °C. At rest my temperature was 36.3 à °C. This is a normal temperature. When I did the activities I recorded my heart rate, blood pressure and temperature after 1 minute, 3 minutes and then after 5 minutes of exercise. After one minute my heart rate had increased to 94 Bpm, my temperature was 36.8 à °C and my blood pressure was 120/68. This is an increase in when I was at rest due to the bodyââ¬â¢s need for a higher amount of oxygen to go through the blood to the muscles that needed it; this caused an increase in heart and breathing rate so that there was an increase in the amount of oxygen supply to theà body. There was an increase in temperature because there is an increase in physical activity, which creates an increase in the heat that is given off by the muscles, increasing the overall temperature of the body. I then did the activity again for three minutes before I recorded my heart rate, blood pressure and temperature again. After three minutes there was a further increase in all three results. My heart rate was 112 Bpm, my temperature increased to 37.5à °C and my blood pressure was 120/78. I then repeated the exercise for a further 5 minutes, however there was an interval of where I had to wait to be able to record what the results were. Due to this my heart rate was 102 Bpm, my temperature was 37.3à °C and my blood pressure was 120/75. When an individual exercises there are internal changes that the body must respond to in order to keep the body functioning as it should. As you exercise your pulse and respiration rate increases to compensate for the higher demand of oxygen in the muscles. While your heart and respiration rate increases the muscles also produce heat as a waste product which heats up the body, in order to control the body temperature, the body produces sweat, when an individual sweats the body is trying to cool itself down. This is known as a negative feedback loop, in a negative feedback, the body responds to change by trying to bring it back to the normal range. In a negative feedback there is a stimulus, a sensor, a regulator (Or control) and a effector. In the case of an increase in temperature the stimuli, which would be the skin, sends a signal to the sensor, this is the nerves. Once this happens a signal is then sent to the regulator (Or control), this is the hypothalamus, When this happens another signal is then sent to the effector, which is the sweat glands which respond to the rise in temperature by producing sweat. In conclusion I found that the longer that I exercised the more my readings increased, however these may not be acute due to the equipment was not readily available and so I had to wait to record the readings allowing the results to decrease. Another way this may not be true is because my reading that was taken after 5 minutes was lower than both of the other results, this could be because I had to wait a longer period of time to take the results.

Advantages And Disadvantages Of Online Accounting Systems Information Technology Essay
Advantages And Disadvantages Of Online Accounting Systems Information Technology Essay When a diminutive company desires to apply accounting software then they have to stick to the conventional method of accounting as the price of any certified accounting software is quite high and relatively unfamiliar to many. This concept has received a big blow as these small businesses now have a choice. Accounting software can be procured and mounted on your computer. However, with the presence of ever developing internet a consumer can locate the identical packaged application on the web and doesnââ¬â¢t have to download or purchase anything. I donââ¬â¢t matter if your company is local, or national, or international any business can at present employ internet based accounting software. It doesnââ¬â¢t depend on the size of the business you uphold, there are certain aspects of considerable importance when it comes working online especially with companyââ¬â¢s accounts. Security is a major concern and one of the primary steps a large amount of network based merchandises think for users. Web based financial account software handle its personal database hub and all the records are accumulated on huge network servers. Supplementary queries can be raised to internet based companies on the support of their infrastructure. Take a note of the number of web data servers are preserved for backups, involuntarily or manually, backup strength must be taken as the primary factor after security. Everything will appear simple when consumers donââ¬â¢t have to consider or worry about backups any longer. Think of the amount of times every year somebody has to volunteer and preserve your server, format it and your system or else you have to worry about it. How overwhelming that charge sounds as the accounting application and database for the company is stored on a Personal computer or the businessââ¬â¢s server. With everything available on the web, you can easily overlook any troubleshooting mishap. IT is addressing certain issues as they come up for the accoun ting software used on the Web. As a matter of fact, a number of web based sellers have forged a plan which will give sufficient time on the maintenance of the entire system and that to on weekly basis. Usually, reviving or modification is done twice or thrice a year where users are informed before hand. Usability is marginally equivalent to 100% both day and night, daily, from any internet accessible tool restricted by a user security system and log on necessities. You will have a lot of capital saving chances while choosing a web based system to have your data. Advisors are no more required to keep the financial accounts and every inescapable timely security update that happen in every application. An unforeseen power reserves arises when small and large businesses toggle to web based application. Reportedly, it was observed that a company saved around millions of dollars from power savings. Additional savings piles up with the exclusion of investment on resources to get the entire system equipped to go. Typically it takes around six months for a large business to mount, switch information, examine and other tedious problems which leads to the build up. This entire process of setting up the infrastructure is quite quick for small companies when they switch to the web based application. The start up time includes the conversation which happens to make the decision.

Real world negotiation Assignment Example | Topics and Well Written Essays - 500 words
Real world negotiation - Assignment Example At the same time, he walked towards the exit threatening to leave. Afraid to lose a sale, Chris called him back and requested him to be patient. Josh offered Chris R.200 for the shoes. However, after much bargaining, the two were approaching an agreement at R.300 for the black shoes. Josh changed his mind almost immediately, claiming that he liked the grey shoes more and would buy them if Chris offered him a free water-bottle. Chris sold him the grey pair of shoes along with the water-bottle for R.300. The ââ¬Å"lowball/ highballâ⬠tactic is used to make the other party move towards the resistance point. The tactic is used majorly in business negotiations, where the purchasing party quotes an extremely low price to induce the seller to lower the opening offer. In the above situation, Joshââ¬â¢s asking price was R.200, which was much lower than the sellerââ¬â¢s price of R.500. Eventually, the tactic paid off since Josh eventually convinced Chris to sell the shoes to him at R.300.Therefore, this situation fulfills the lowball/highball tactic of negotiation. In this case, an emotional ploy is used to force the other party into bending their will towards the intimidatorââ¬â¢s likeness (Ghauri, Pervez and Usunier 90).When used in any negotiation, the intimidator will feign an emotion such as anger to make the other party do what they want out of fear/panic. In this situation, Josh dropped the shoes and threatened to leave the store. The act of anger intimidated Chris, forcing him to call Josh back for a better negotiation. The intimidation tactic worked perfectly for Josh. The ââ¬Å"aggressive behaviourâ⬠tactic is used to force the other party to make concessions to reach an agreement (Ghauri, Pervez and Usunier 91). Josh uses this tactic when he notifies Chris that he does not want to waste time, and also when he asks him to explain the high price of R. 500. In this case, the tactic was not helpful as Chris does not bother explaining how he obtained his
